THE BEST ONLINE LEAGUE NEWSLETTER 2.07

Sunday, March 9th, 2003,

Well I've finally said screw it on updating in 2 week segments. It allows one guy to really throw everything off. What I'll do now is update every Sunday. You'll have a Saturday Night deadline, and then Sunday morning I will update all "Week" pages, all the "Team" pages, and of course the Leaderboard. Because everyone will have played different amounts of games, the way the rankings will be determined by win column first, then loss column, then team rating. This will also probably mean that I will do all my updating in one sitting on Sunday. Y'all have been spoiled by me updating on the fly immediately. I may still do it just to save me time on Sunday, but the big update will be at the end of the week. It's also MANDATORY now that you guys put what WEEK the game is at and you make SURE you have the home team on the bottom in your emails. And as always please have the NAME of the teams - and put the friggin final score. Anyway, it's all updated now, so check it out.

The Leaderboard this update is just incredible. Of course the story of the year so far are the Saints. With arguably the hardest games behind them (Bucs, Rams, Bears), they're looking at 16-0 season. Doing that with the Jets is one thing - but the SAINTS? Yeah, that's pretty spectacular.

Also pretty spectacular is Miami's resurgence. I guess Spencer tasted victory for the first time and liked it, because he went from 0-12 (both seasons) to reeling off 3 straight in amazing fashion. He's already the 5th seed, and will most definitely move up. I see him taking the 3rd or 4th seed without hesitation. 2nd might be pushing it - but you never know. Big game with the Jets comin' up that will determine that.

The video page has now been relegated to "Outstanding Plays". I have a feeling that's what I'm gonna now do with ALL the leagues. Everyone loves the video, but we gotta keep it to "special" things. I don't want 20 videos of touchdown passes. This isn't Sportscenter. If it breaks a legue record, and it's on tape - yeah that's goin' up. If it's the last few seconds of a game and someone intercepts it - yeah, that's spectacular. But everyday plays of the game, are a little dull after 15 of them. So the page is a bit shorter now, but the plays are pretty cool. Once again, it's still pretty much all me - but one of these days you guys will get around to taping your shit. I mean damnit, we got a League record 100 yard pass. WOW. That can never be beaten, only be tied...but nope - no video. I feel like we're in the old days of football when some games weren't televised or filmed. Heh. It's all-folklore and shit. Anyway, check out the page. It's updated with Season 1's SuperBOL. And easily the play of the entire league so far. An absolutely monumnetal interception in the final moments of the biggest game of them all. Be sure to check it out.

As well, the 4th quarter dropped connection has finally hit me personally...and it was totally my fault. I have DSL and one phone in my apartment doesn't have the little filter thingee on it. Big piano stacked on old VHS tapes in front of it...total pain, never put one on. We just don't use that phone unless it's an emergency. Anyway - my wife picked up the phone, and as you can imagine pure havoc ensued. Add to that I was losing. We had to do the game over...

But because of it - we now have a brand new rule. Halftime stats. You always take stats at halftime so if this happens, you only have to redo one half. It's so perfect. Not records mind you, just the total passing and rushing yards of each team, as well as the 2 quarter box score. DUH. That'll take like 10 seconds. So from this point on, both guys should write down those stats at halftime and of course remember who got the ball at the half. No changing conditions either wise-asses. "But a snow storm made it's way through..." SHUT THE FUCK UP. LOL. Anyway, what a great solution to a problem we all fear in this game.

Also, I'm putting a time limit on the remaining games. You need to be IN week 7 and 8 by Saturday March 15th. That's 12:01 AM, period. If you still have leftover week 5 and 6 games leftover, they're losses. Period. People aren't responding to emails and blowing off their games. A forfeit will give you your current team rating average and a loss for that game. It's the only fair way for people that are for whatever reason dragging their feet. It's not a lot to ask to simply answer your emails. Or give more definite plans then "maybe on sunday". (sigh).

I also believe the Blue NFL league will start this week with a 10 team regular season, and a 6 man playoff much in the same way Red's Season 1 started. I'm gonna email people with what they think. It at least gets the ball rolling. Things always pick up steam the 2nd time around. Working out the payout and hope to get the final 2 members in the next couple of days with a Friday, March 14th start.

Woot. Keep kicking ass everyone...
