Tuesday, July 24th - 26th, 1995:
SHOW 22
- I heard my voice over on the
way to work. It took me probably 5 seconds 'til I
realized it was me. It was a boring commercial, bad
copy. So I get there and start making labels for WOBN,
when I get out, Cannon says: "Oh, you don't go on
until 2:00." Ahhh, thank you. Oh, and thanks for not
trying to call me. Ass. As my show started I was in no
mood to be there. I had an earache, and was pissed
that no one had told me about this. Subsequently I
paid no attention to the show, just went through the
motions. I got stumped oh, about 8 times, and ended up
talking to this sophomore from Pickerington the whole
night. He wants to get into broadcasting. I told him
maybe he could come down one night and see how it
works. He's a little too talkative though. Other than
getting stumped trivia was fun, but reading off the
cards is really hectic, I need to have time to come in
and type them up. This is really becoming a job, but
then again it's really fun. I'm a DJ! It's just hard
doing it every night. And I still haven't gotten a
paycheck. KP said it would probably take two pay
sessions to get things going. So in about a week I'll
get a huge check. Ho, hum, tweedle dee...

- 10:45 PM - 5:00 AM, Tuesday
- Wednesday, July 25th - 26th, 1995:
SHOW 23
- Another wonderful surprise
tonight. Wasserman shows up at 11:50. I thought it was
tomorrow that he was coming in, but I was wrong. It's
Tuesday night to me, and Bill told me Wednesday. Oh
well, make that 8 hours Wasserman's got from me.
Actually his two hours kicked ass. He finally spouted
some liberal opinions that riled up callers. Before he
was being too wishy-washy. He talked about the death
penalty and legalizing hemp. He had callers for 2
hours straight. He really is a nice guy. As for my 3
hours, I was really close to the perfect shift.
Meaning no verbal mistakes, and everything clean. Then
the second I thought about it I screwed up. Oh well,
it will happen. Trivia once again was good. Mike
Perkins left me a note and asked if I could work until
9:00 instead of 6:00 this weekend if he needs me. I
thought HOLY SHIT! I'm gonna be doing the morning
show! No...I guess he wants me to do Weekend ESPN and
Perspective instead. Oh well. Of course I said yes,
but that would've rocked if I could've done the
morning show. Yeah right like they'd give that to me.
Not yet anyway. Then as I was leaving I met Daddy Wags
and introduced myself to him. He seemed very nice, but
not the type to be up at 5:00 in the morning. Too
hippiesh.

- 9:30 PM - 5:00 AM, Wednesday
- Thursday, July 26th - 27th, 1995:
SHOW 24
- I went early once again to make
labels for WOBN. I'm almost done with the Music &
the PSA's. I also put 3 of my songs down on the AKG,
and Can't Slow Down onto cart. Then, as I'm rushing to
be done by midnight I realize that there is a late
Reds Game, and I won't be on until 1:30 or even 2:00!
Goddammit, if it isn't Harvey it's baseball. Oh and
Bill called and told me Harvey was in tomorrow again.
This time from 11:00 - 2:00. Well, I get paid an extra
hour, but still only 3 on-air hours. Fuck. So at 1:40
I finally get on. That sophomore kid is driving me
nuts. He calls and stays on for the whole shift. I
always say when I have to go, but I don't want to
disconnect him for no reason, I think he kind of looks
up to me. So I get him off at 2:30, and all of the
sudden I decide to play Can't
Slow Down in it's
entirety. I was scared out of my mind. Luckily no one
from the station heard it, and really no one in the
audience noticed at all. I sandwiched it in between
two positioners and it was smooth. Though it was too
risky. I'll ask before I do that again. Trivia went
well. And then some lady called me up afterwards and
asked if she could stump me on something else....I
said sure. She asked me a Michael Jordan question. Why
hadn't I thought of that before?! Michael Jordan
trivia! Anyway I missed it. What years did he win the
league MVP. I only knew '88. It was '88, '91, &
'92. I decided that from now on, I'll open it up to MJ
questions as well as Beatles. Hopefully more people
will be able to participate. Boy, after the fit Robert
Bower threw about me fuckin' up that one day, he's
been the nicest guy there! He said I was amazing
today, when I got my commercial exact to the second of
where he wanted them. I haven't a clue why he's so
nice. Oh well, it's fine with me. AND on Sunday I'm
doing "Perspective" with the producer, and learning
the ropes. Damn, 12-9, that's a looooooong
shift.

- 10:00 PM - 5:00 AM, Thursday
- Friday, July 27th - 28th, 1995:
SHOW 25
- This Harvey thing is really
getting to me. I want that time back so bad. But hey,
I got an hours worth of work I wouldn't have had
otherwise. I am so nice to Harvey too. I've done that
my entire life, befriend the enemy. I mean I go out of
my way to make things easy for him. I can't figure out
why. His three hours went well, finally he's getting
under people's skin, and being polite. It's working
quite well. Also, tonight was my first night of
Michael Jordan trivia as well as The Beatles. It went
great. I brought one of his Basketball cards with me
for the crazy statistics. That way if anyone asked
stupid questions I'd know. I just told the audience
that I had memorized his stats, and only a few people
asked me statistical questions. Then that asshole
Craig, the sophomore, asked me, get this: "Okay, now
when Jordan was at Carolina in '84, on January 4th
they played a game against Houston, the score was
54-52....how many personal fouls did Jordan have?"
What a dick. I really hate people who play, just to
get something. Oh well, he still didn't win. Also,
Mary called (a legendary 'regular' caller) and said
that I was slurring my words last night during trivia.
That I sounded less articulate. I was actually really
happy she did that. I made a concerted effort to do
better. Oh, and in the morning Joe barged in and said:
"When's the weekend!?" I've have been playing my
weekend opener every hour during the week. I
felt soooo stupid. It was funny though. No one ever
noticed all week.

- 11:00 PM - 6:00 AM, Friday -
Saturday, July 28th - 29th, 1995:
SHOW 26
- Shift went well, hads a lot of
callers. This asshole calls up, sounded extremely
lucid, said he wanted to talk about the Gallagher
show. When I put him on he screamed: "I wanna fuck you
up the ass!" I cut him off before he said hole. I
laughed and went on. Had some people call and say how
shitty that was. Overall good night. Tomorrow I'm on
from 12:00 - 9:00. That will be rough. Oh and Bill
called me and said I might have a job at the WTVN Big
Top Circus at the Fair. Hey, more money for me. I am
getting tired though. Now I need a
vacation.
-
- 11:15 PM - 8:00 AM, Saturday
- Sunday, July 29th - 30th, 1995:
SHOW 27
- My sleep schedule is screwed
all to hell. Who knows why, but I slept for 13 hours
on Saturday. There are days when I don't stay up that
long, let alone sleep. Consequently it is 2:00 in the
afternoon right now, and I am wide awake. I'd try to
pull a two-dayer and then crash HARD, but I'm
contesting a speeding ticket tomorrow morning at 9:00,
so uhh...not a chance. Carmen left me with the Reds to
do by myself. Her instruction wasn't great to begin
with, and I was asleep, but everything went fine. Of
course I had an entire interview potted down one time,
thus having oh....5 minutes of dead air, but I
later blamed it on a satellite feed....which also is
shit because if I had known about it I would have
thrown a song on. The problem was that it was in cue,
so I could hear everything. Oh well. I was able to get
to the news with a few extra spots, so I started right
at the hour. Things were slow and Craig is really
drives me insane. There are 4 big years between 16 and
the normal 20 year old. And with my life, I'm no
normal 20 year old. Then the "perspective" guy came in
at 6:00. I wish I could remember his name, he's a
great guy. And as it seems a guy who knows quite a bit
of people. God, the contacts I'm making.....What is
his NAME! He let me leave at 8:00 and say I worked
until 9:00. How nice. It looks like I am going to be
doing 12-9 from now on. That kind of
rocks.
-
- 11:00 PM - 5:00 AM, Sunday -
Monday, July 30th - 31st, 1995:
SHOW 28
- KP was there, and she said
payday is tomorrow, so I might be in luck. I should be
getting paid for close to 90 hours of work. Well,
finally a full shift uninterrupted. Hansel was there,
and....god he drives me nuts. He just seems like an
asshole, and everything he's said to me since I met
him has been odd, or basically rude. I can't figure
him out. Slow night until trivia, and that was
fun.....oh boy was that fun. I got rid of the first 7
callers in 20 minutes. I stumped them all. god was I
on, then was stumped myself the last 3 times. I love
this job. I love people. Oh yeah..the perspective guy
is Jack Stewart. ANYWAY, not much else happened, but
it was a great shift, and I'm definitely enjoying
myself.
