How
friggin' awesome are these guys. My first and
only Late Show specific advertisers. The
reason why will suprise you (more in a sec).
Anyway, these are old fans from the WTVN days
and have always displayed my CDs for sale at
their store. They stuck with me when I went
to CD101 and finally called up one day to ask
if they could advertise.

-
- They came in and
we made a great spot and they bought time and the
station saleswoman had to come up with a special rate
because no one had ever asked to just advertise on the
overnights. It aired a few times and then the sales
manager got wind of it and all hell broke loose. What
was supposed to be my in-roads to a better position
(it was obvious the popularity was turning into
money), turned into the beginning of the end. Since I
was a department head as well as the on-air guy I was
in on the meeting where he said emphatically we can't
allow advertisers to target the overnights because "It
won't work."
-
- (sigh)
-
- He felt that it
would make the station look bad if they didn't get a
response from it and could only end up hurting their
reputation with businesses. It was almost too much to
take. I finally get some momentum and now not
only do I lose it, I can never get another
burst of it because he won't allow it. Christ.
I mean, I guess I see his point - but
wow...just seemed a little near-sighted to me.
-
- So that soon ended
that. I still played their commercial every once
and awhile. I mean, I guess you can see it as
just another "bit" and I felt so bad for the guys
for dumping money into something that they couldn't
see all the way through. They had to pay for what did
air - and never really saw anything from it because it
didn't go long enough. Yeah, real good way to help
your reputation.
-
- Grrrr. Go visit
these guys. They friggin' rock.
