I don't think
there could be a worse time for a 4-day Weekend
Vacation from work. Time usually spent with Jess is
now just kind of "there". It hasn't even been a week,
and we're both kinda just .bummed. Mainly because
we don't have a damn thing to talk about on the phone.
We just kinda sit there. In when you think about it,
that's about all we do when we're together in person -
rarely is there a heated discussion about anything
other than what some customer/patient did. And that
takes all of 5 minutes. (sigh) 4 weeks from Saturday.

Oh, by the way -
Don Zimmer is a complete buffoon who got exactly what
he deserved - I don't care how old he is. In case you
didn't see the highlight. A 70 year old coach of the
Yankees stormed the mound in the middle of a game to
beat the hell out of the Red Sox pitcher who promptly
dropped him to the ground. He didn't punch him, kick
him, even do anything "offensively" - just a
maneuvered push to keep this crazy old man from
hitting him. Of course he's 70 so he went down pretty
easy
and everyone
is going apeshit over it. Whatever dude. Had he
actually popped the old man in the face, yeah - you
have cause to bitch - but he just put him down.
Granted, it looks pretty violent on the replay, but
they only show the throwdown. They don't show the
charge. It's really the same thing a
cop/bouncer/bodyguard would do - you just put the
attacker down. And again, I don't care if it's a 70
year old man or a crazy woman in a barfight. You don't
involve yourself in the fight, you just get them to
the ground so they can't hurt anyone. Although, hmmm -
had it been a woman and he threw her down yeah -
he'd have been lynched.
But I have to give
props to the old man for having the cajones to storm
the field at 72. That rules.
And while we're on
the topic of inappropriate behavior during sporting
events, Mr. Reynolds? Expel that fucker. Again, if you
didn't see the highlights of the OSU game, after
sacking the Wisconsin QB, the Ohio State Linebacker
Reynolds, choked the him and put him out for the game.
He put his hand up under his helmet, and then
proceeded to put all his weight down on the dude's
throat for at least 2 seconds until another player
knocked him off. I've never been so pissed in my whole
friggin life at a sporting event. You can not only
seriously, seriously hurt someone like that - you
could kill him. Especially when you have a helmet and
pads holding your neck off the ground just a bit, bam
- that could've been absolutely disastrous. Kid should
be kicked off the team. Ohio State deserved to lose
that game after that. My heart totally went out of it
at that moment. I really hope Tressel at least
suspends him for a couple of games.
And while I'm just
spouting off beliefs (what the hell does this entry
have to do with the Journey?) - Arnold Schwarzenegger
is our Governor. Is there anything funnier in the
entertainment world today? I was sitting there last
week on Tuesday night drinking a beer watching his
victory speech and it just hit me - POW. And I had one
of the hardest laughs in easily a month. Just a: "Holy
Shit Arnold Schwarzenegger is our Governor -
bwahahahahaha". In case you were wondering, we don't
give too much of a shit out here. As bad as Davis was,
didn't really effect me too much. That's why about 7
million people in the state voted heh. How
pathetic is that. There are 50 million LEGAL people in
this state. There's 9 million in LA county alone! HA.
It's entertainment to most of us. I'm happy he won so
I can get a good chuckle every now and
then
Oh and more errant
ramblings - could the media blow anything more out of
proportion than the RUSH/MCNABB comment? First of all,
Rush was soooooooooooooo right. Even though there are
8 black starting quarterbacks in the NFL, the media
STILL over-hypes them. Always. It's not as bad as it
was 3-5 years ago, but it's still there as much as the
media wants to deny it. And actually, it's the exact
same way the media overhypes WHITE boxers, WHITE NBA
players or even in the NFL, WHITE wide-receivers. If a
position is predominantly one race and someone out of
the ordinary excels in it, the media over-hypes that
player to be better than he actually is. It's always
happened, and probably always will. The only reason
Rush got slammed was because he slammed the MEDIA for
doing it - so they made him pay.
God I'm so sick of
people acting like they never see color. And why is
the media so concerned with whether they give black
QBs more hype? They should! I mean talk about the most
bullshit stereotype in all of sports that black guys
are too stupid to be QB. I personally cheer more for a
black QB than a white one simply because I know the
road he has traveled has been harder and I think it's
AWESOME when that racism is shoved back in white dudes
faces. The bottom line is that black guys dominate
every-single "athletic" position on the football field
(no offense kickers) and the fact that they only make
up 8 of 29 starting QBs shows there's still a way to
go.
And wow yet
another controversial subject - why they dominate the
NFL to begin with. Shit, here I go. It's another thing
people never want to admit to for various reasons -
but the reason is really micro-evolution at its
finest.
If you hand-pick
an entire race of people based on size, strength and
athleticism, take them to a new land and proceed to
make it completely socially unacceptable for them to
"breed" outside their race - guess what's gonna happen
in 400 years? For the most part, they will be
physically superior. I think it friggin' rules. How
ironic that the slaves the white guys brought over to
RULE over, would soon become the heroes of their
descendents. LOL. White America is absolutely
captivated by sports figures - how classic is that? I
wonder what our forefathers would think? It's like the
Indians giving the white man tobacco. Ultimate
Karma.
Unfortunately, I
assume that most black people won't buy my argument
because they're afraid that admitting to that truth
would be like admitting they don't have to work as
hard to be good at sports - which is also complete
horseshit. A black guy and a white guy both work just
as hard to excel at sports - it just so happens that
in some sports, the end result will almost always go
in the black dude's favor. It's just the way it is.
Man, what other
volatile, alienating subject can I possibly write
about? HAHA. Here, I'll end with Mario Kart. Who can
argue with that?
In February of
1997, Nintendo released a game that actually changed
my life. I ended up playing more Mario Kart 64 with my
friiends Leon and Dominick than any other game in the
history of games. I even started a league to
satisfy the addiction - and simply could not get
enough of this game.
Nearly
7 years later, Nintendo will release the
sequel on November 17th. I'm certain it
will never equal what it was for me back
then, but I couldn't be more excited about
this game. There's something about the
perfect balance of racing and weapons in
Mario Kart games that is unequaled. And
what looks like a stupid kids game on the
outside becomes the most intensely
addicting and satisfying adult game on the
planet. So induldge me for the moment, and
watch a japaneese
commercial
for the game. It is as much a part of my
character development in this
"Journey" as anything else.
And at 28 years
old, that's admittedly a bit pathetic. Sue
me.
