Didn't see this comin'...

How ironic that I would put Darryl's name in print last entry. What was I thinking. Before I could even email the newsletter that the locked entry is up - this? I mean it was the same month in 1996 when Darryl was brought in replacing my only supporter, Bill White, and effectively ending my career at WTVN. Spooky...

What's even crazier about all of this is in any other situation - this is a locked entry. Nothing is official, that'll happen next week, and it feels so inside. However, when you get trumped by Variety - not a whole lot of use to locking anything. Stands to reason I'm not really "spreading the news" with my site. And on top of that - I don't know anything. I'm a complete outsider when it comes to this and have only my own shock to offer and ponder what the hell this all means.

First off, I'm just frustrated for Steve. I mean you're brought in 2006, the ratings increase and you're still replaced. The salt on the wound is the end of the article showing CBS is finally getting their affiliates back in January after over a decade of having 30% of the affiliates not even carry their show. There's your ratings: right, in, front, of you. Talk about having the rug pulled out from under you. Steve is just so single-handedly responsible for giving me a break and I'm heartbroken he isn't seen for the GENIUS he is. Ha! Just breaking the ice there... I think he's a great guy and I hope I get to see him again in New York.

Now, if this follows every showbiz story I've ever known, it goes like this: with Steve goes Steve's babies. Assuming he's no longer with CBS it would be hard to imagine Living Room Live or Adam & The Egos continuing. Of course I could be wrong, but it's just how I've seen things go down. It has nothing to do with merit or talent and I surely don't take it personally... it's just the business. It's like Darryl Parks in '96. When all the dust settled it was clear that the only thing he had against me was I wasn't his choice. I wasn't his pet project. People like to come into a new place and put THEIR stamp on it, not try and support the last guy's hand-picked talent or idea...

...then there's the flip-side. The content I've produced this season has been really top-notch. I simply could not have done more. An impossibility. I took no shortcuts - each week I pushed my limits further and further. If Living Room Live is cancelled and CBS doesn't want anything to do with Adam & The Egos I can rest assured knowing I did everything in my power to show them otherwise. From writing it, supplying the HD cam, acting all the parts and editing, producing and uploading the bit...I simply couldn't have been a bigger bang for their buck. And although I want desperately to get off the friggin' internet already - Adam & The Egos certainly shows a forward thinking network to be producing a webisode like that every week. That would seem like a plus.

Unfortunately this is show-business and it doesn't matter what anything seems like. Your career is always a phone call away... both ways. Up, down... all around. Fortunes change on a dime. What can't be taken away from me is the content. It was ambitious to say the least and I couldn't be more proud of it. I produced every single show like it was my last one and it showed.

For now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Steve (although I'm certain he already knows where he's headed and if he's staying within the company), and holding my breath for the announcement next week. $10 says they announce it on Thursday to commemorate my one-year anniversary of the call that changed my life last year.

No business I know...
