3:30 PM - 5:30 PM, Monday, April 14th, 1997:
Meeting #11. Great. GREAT! Only one way this could be better, a full time on-air position. Basically I know I’ll be working with Shiek within 2 weeks. I reamed Cannon about the sheik thing, said I’m having a very difficult time dealing with Cannon. He said "Ok, I’ll deal with it." "How? Can you give me some idea..." "Trust me. I am on vacation next week in Portland and will deal with it the week after." Cool. Now, here’s a scenario you may not have thought of (who’s you?): Darryl was really pissed with Cannon. Pissed enough to fire him? Cannon’s done nothing but fuck up since the time change, well? And could it turn out that I produce Sheik and then do my show from 11-2? That of course is the best case scenario. What will happen? Hansel and I are switched. And I get to be on a normal schedule!!! WOO HOO. That sounds awesome to me. I’m happy. AND HE LOVED MY AIRCHECK. We listened to Sunday. He said I did everything right. I stacked the show right by starting with the monologue then taking a break, then taking callers. I built it right and used the right defense. It was great. He still drills home the call letters thing. He is right, but he said I’m 1000% better. A figure of speech of course, but nice nonetheless. He also admitted that I had done everything he asked. He would say to do something, and I’d pull it off. That’s a great thing to have established. We came to this after he said trust me. And I said, haven’t I always? Honetly, for this log only, I trust him as much as you can in this business. Doubt does prevail because not only have I not seen any improvement with my position at the station, it feels as if it’s gone down. But, I do believe he believes in me, and that I’m on the verge of something. Only time will tell. What a great meeting.

10:45 PM - 5:15 AM, Monday - Tuesday, April 14th - 15th, 1997:
Came in pretty late. Why fuckin’ come in any earlier? Not much to really do. Had to run the last part of the Reds, and made some mistakes. I was a bit rusty, but it definitely is easier than last year. Cannon’s show went REALLY quick. That was nice. Only 2 1/2 hours. Then the Sheik came in around 2:15 and we ended up talking for the next 3 hours! What a really great guy. I think we’re gonna get along. He’s got a lot of experience. And knows almost everyone in comedy. He was a stand-up for awhile. We talked about everything philosophies and so on. My career and what I should do. He said if I just keep doing what I’m doing, I’ll be a millionaire. You know. People have been telling me shit like this since I was a kid. What am I supposed to think? I feel like I’ve been kicking butt, but I’m a nothing guy at a nothng station in a nothing town. Sheik lived in Vegas...and Columbus? It’s a joke. I learned a lot. He’s going to be a great influence, and he’s highly intentional and full of integrity. Doesn’t have a sell-out bone in his body. Hell he left a national sports radio show because he wanted to talk about what he wanted! Whatever he wanted! It was a cool night.

10:30 PM - 5:00 AM, Tuesday - Wednesday, April 15th - 16th, 1997:
Boy did I lose it tonight. GREAT STORY night. A million topics to discuss, and should be a breeze for Cannon. Instead of developing 1 or 2 he just went through EVERYTHING basically to hear himself talk. 1 call in 90 minutes. "I don’t understand it...These stories are so great!" "Cannon, you haven’t developed any of them!" He actually kind of listened to me and bobbed his head. Now on hold was a guy who was going to take him to task for being bigotted. I said to Cannon, if you play this guy right, you will be done for the rest of the night. Just be opinionated. He was, and within 10 minutes the lines were filled. Basically all pity calls, but still: PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY WANT TO CALL, you just have to give them a reason! Jesus, why am I telling him this? It’s so FUCKIN’ AGGRIVATING! If he gets killed someday, I know I’ll be the culprit because of this damn log. Heh heh...Shit....

9:00 PM - 5:45 AM, Wednesday - Thursday, April 16th - 17th, 1997:
Man, killer night for me musically. Redid the version of Eleanor Rigby A capella, and it’s fucking fantastic. Really good. How many times have I said that before about a song? I’m usually pretty modest, but this rocked. Cannon? Eh. Sheik? Eh... only on for 30 minutes. I also made "Eleanor Lesbo" about Ellen coming out and that was cool. Same background, just new words. Got to talk to Bradley a bit. It’s funny, he bitches about BC like I bitch about Cannon. God his show was pathetic tonight. I TOLD HIM AGAIN to start with the tobacco story...did he? No. And when he finally did, that’s when he got calls! He really sucks. Oh well, OH WELL. But Eleanor Rigby rocked. In fact, I will go listen to it now. Heh heh.

10:30 PM - 5:00 AM, Thursday - Friday, April 17th - 18th, 1997:
Everything is starting to run together. I have no idea what happened tonight. It’s Monday, and I can’t remember what happened on Friday. Uhm...Cannon’s an asshole. Ok. Mary Jo and I make fun of him every chance we can. Did I tell you she was pregnant? She is. She’s not been very bitchy at all. She never really was though. Ok. Read the next entry, it’s pretty nifty.

6:15 PM, Saturday, April 19th, 1997:
I was on stage with BC at the Crew Kicker Party! It was awesome. My grandfather called and asked if I wanted to go, and I had no idea that WTVN was sponsoring it. It was great. Bob actually put his arm around me and said: "let’s go..." I said a few words to the crowd, and Bob actually laughed at what I was saying. It was pretty cool. Ok, that’s it.

10:35 PM - 2:15 AM, Saturday - Sunday, April 19th - 20th, 1997: SHOW 246
Came in late because I went to the Crew game...never been this late. The show ROCKED though! I really felt like I was on tonight. Very funny, very loose, and the show went great. Eleanor Lesbo whooped ass on the air. I was worried, but it turned out great. That song will simply make my next music CD. The Bulls lost number 70 - 2 minutes before I went on the air. Pippen missed a 3 pointer at the end to seal it. I cannot believe it. 68-10 with 4 games left, and they couldn’t win 2 for back to back 70 win seasons!!! They went 1-3? Wow. They are really stumbling into the playoffs. 69-13 is cool and all, but wow. DAMMIT THAT BLOWS. Anyway the show was great. Pot Boy sang for us. And really, I was just on. I sounded funny. The show was great! GIVE ME A FUCKIN’ FULL TIME JOB DARRYL. GOD DAMMIT it’s getting aggrivating. I’m cornering him this week. Is there a spot for me here? Ok, see ya. It’s pissin’ me off. WFYI 1230 is now all talk. Maybe, just maybe...

7:30 PM - 11:15 PM, Sunday, April 20th, 1997: SHOW 247
Definitely one of the bad Sundays. And 2 hours, really is tough. To take on a topic, you need to screw around the first hour, then bring it up, HIT IT HARD the next hour, and talk through 3. 3 is like a formula, but 2 hours is just all wacky. Welcome to the first hour of the late show....welcome to the last hour of the late show. It’s just wrong. Oh well. Got 20 people online at once though! A new record for the room. That’s cool. And back to hell I go... NO WAIT. Cannon had a fuckin guest tonight I had no clue about again. Can you believe that? I know he’ll use the lame ass excuse: "You’re not my producer that night..." WHICH I AM YOU DUMB SHIT. Mary Jo is gonna kill him, I know it. Darryl screamed at him about this.
