10:30 PM - 5:30 AM, Wednesday - Thursday, December 18th - 19th, 1996: SHOW 214
Ugh. What a tough way to come back. Joe Weasel must have been really dull. I say that 1. because I’ve heard him and he is, and 2. because Leon told me it sucked. It was like talking to a brick wall all night. And Angela never showed up. (sigh) Who knows what her excuse is this time. Leon came in and helped. Anyway no good talk. The first hour I was pumped and energetic but that soon wore off. Had a Lester but no Top Nine List. I won’t until the weekend. Getting burnt out really quick. This time change had better be coming up on the 4th. We’ll see. Finally the night ended with a semi-strong 5th hour. God I hope tomorrow is a little stronger.
10:30 PM - 5:15 AM, Thursday - Friday, December 19th - 20th, 1996: SHOW 215
A surpisingly good show. Get this, an Oakland school board has declared that black english, "ebonics" is a second language, and teachers must respect it’s use. I be goin’ to the mall. They’re applying for federal funds. And 3 hours later we’re still talking about it. It was nice. To finally have a good topic ride it’s own weight. It was probably just as slow as last night, but since there was something to talk about people called. God it’s nice having a topic. Did Mind Trap, boring and no one called! Can you believe it? Probably 8 players. Wow. Thank God we’re almost done. And of course the show was only until 5:00, so we just did a little Angela’s Stories and we were done. Life is good. Killer Boyles tomorrow!!!! Wow, first one in 3 weeks. Whew.
7:00 PM - 6:15 AM, Friday - Saturday, December 20th - 21st, 1996: SHOW 216
Great Boyles. Starting off Volume 4 with a bang. Lester calling Phone Sex. Ha. The night was relatively slow, but Anthony and Glenn got things going with more talk of Ebonics. This thing will probably save me a shitload of work the whole 4 day stint! It’s positively ludicrous. Even Jesse Jackson came out against it. Leon helped me out all night because Angela says she’s sick. She’s gonna miss 3 of my 4 shows. That’s a total of 10 since she’s been here. Give me a fuckin’ break. Maybe she’ll make it on Saturday night. Bryan called from Kansas, the dude who did the Restaurant review. Oh, and Tom Bodet made a comeback. Yup, that’s how slow it was. I hope tomorrow turns out a wee bit better. After the show Perkins came in and was all praise. He really likes the show. He’s said verbatim: "I’m a big fan..." To me that’s wonderful. I respect him. He says he likes how I do things differently. He came in and said my skill as a talk host is evolving at an amazing rate. Wow. That’s so cool.
8:00 PM - 7:15 AM, Saturday - Sunday, December 21st - 22nd, 1996: SHOW 217
My cats did that, and I was so proud I couldn’t erase it, ANYWAY:
Fuckin’ Angela. She DID call off again and Leon couldn’t come in until 2:00 AM. Welcome to pranker haven. I’m so freakin’ sick of her. The first 2 hours blew. Finally Leon got there and it was semi better. Actually the 4:00 hour was great. We were talking about old games we played in grade school. And we were having pencil fights on the air. It was funny as hell. Some guy brought us White Castles. It was so funny. The guy was so scary and both Leon and I thought we were gonna die. I gotta stop letting people in just ‘cause they have food. We lived. Slow night though. Ebonics finally died, but not without Lester having one good last jab. Aaron was trying to get a cab to come pick him up to do Saturday Morning Fever and it left him in the cold. He’s so damn loyal. His car broke down, and he was at a payphone at 2:00 AM in the COLD waiting for a cab. Huh-huh...cool. Alright I’m done! Thank you Ebonics, you saved my show.
