- The circumstances
I'm about to describe are completely inconsequential.
Earlier in the month I premiered 4tvs in front of
a live audience and my heart fell in love with the
potential of that concept. The final bit simply
provided a fitting end to an incredible
year...

It seemed
harmless as we were setting it up. Crazy Food
Boy wanted to do a bit and we were all ready
to watch and hear him....be crazy. He was
insistent on throwing water balloons at the
cops outside of Banana Joes but I talked
him out of that. Looking back, letting him do
that would've kept me on the air for a bit
longer... he'd be the one in trouble. Heh. It
was indeed my idea to throw them at a vendor
figuring - hey it's just water.

-
- As you'll hear in
the bit, it was obvious that to work there had to be
no connection to the station. It was risky to do
something that might piss someone off literally
in front of our studio. Well Crazy Food Boy ended up
damaging something on the cart with the first balloon
that didn't break - and spoiling some buns with the
balloon that did. He was able to run back to the
studio without being caught or spotted as being in
connection with the station. Mr. Moose however got
caught between a rock and a hard place.
-
- He stayed back and
tried to act like he didn't know CFB but enough people
had seen them talking beforehand that the vendor was
able to put 2 and 2 together. When he eventually did
come back to the station a few minutes later, he
walked right into our main side-door and the literally
sealed the fate. Whether someone saw that, or made the
connection before that - it simply wasn't the most
well thought out scheme and Monday morning the vendor
came in looking for $50 to cover his
damages.
-
- Andyman was
obviously a little pissed. It's funny, as much
as he liked screaming at me he only had one sentence
of fire to spew as he could tell I was already
done. He suspended me for the following 2 weeks and
I sat there for a moment and soaked it in. The
next show was to be my 1 year anniversary show and as
I played through the following weeks and weighed
their value with that of having an open Friday night
to book 4tvs the answer was clear. It took me less
than 30 seconds to look him in the eye and say: "I'm
done. I'm not goin' back on."
-
- His reaction was
priceless. "I'm only suspending you temporarily." "I'm
done Andy. There's nothing more I can do on that show.
We've literally done it all, and all of my passion is
in 4tvs. That's my future, radio isn't." He shook his
head in understanding and that was the end of it.
I walked into my office (production studio) and
made the call to Marty. I swear to you I'd rather
have told him I had a terminal disease. It ended
an incredibly fun year of our lives we'll never
forget.
-
- Here's the most
telling fact of all: We both did it for free. I'm dead
serious. I never got paid a dime to be on the air. I
was the station's Production Director only. Andy
allowed me to do my show. And shit, Marty
wasn't even employed there. Everyone involved just
loved making people laugh. Sure some of the bits were
for tickets, but by the end - we just wanted to make
good radio. Listeners that initially performed
something for a prize...came back to come up with
other ideas. Tell me the guy who ordered one of
everything at White Castle won't tell that story the
rest of his life? So awesome.
-
- The Late Show
ended exactly the way it should have... giving
everything it had. We should all be so
lucky...
