It's a little known fact that I was one night away from never following 4tvs. I had the idea on November 3rd, 1998 and let it slip away completely. Too much hassle, didn't know where to start - moved on. One week later I saw Billy Joel in concert and said - "No, I have to perform - fuck this, I'm gonna make it happen". That night I drew this:

And the following day I called every production house in the city to find out how to pull it off. Looking back on it now, I'm amazed...absolutely amazed how close I was to never following it. So when I get a crazy idea - now I do it. I just have to see it through to a point. Hollywood Rocks of Fame is one of those ideas.

I swear boy, when I do make it - there's gonna be more than enough embarassing fodder for Behind The Music, or Behind The Movies, or Behind the Sitcom or whatever the hell I fall into. I just have so many goddamn ideas and I just have to see them through. This latest one screams of gimmick but as I have my Beatles' Hollywood Rock of Fame on my desk matching my wallpaper - I really think this is cool too.

The concept is pretty much pet rock meets celebrity. I actually got the idea from some dude selling dirt on ebay from his back yard and getting $35. I mean what the hell. I figured I could get a whole bunch of really nice rocks from the beach, take pictures of them in cool places - and sell people the rock and the picture. A cool collectible for it's uniqueness alone. The picture is at a high enough resolution you can be sure the one in the pic is what you get. I figure if in 2-3 months I can get 10 orders a day, it can be worth my while. Here's what I wrote on the first page of the site:

As a normal, skeptical human being, I will be the first to admit that on paper (or plasma as this is the 21st Century) this looks like a complete joke. But I guarantee that once you put your Hollywood Rock of Fame next to your monitor, with wallpaper showing your rock at your favorite celebrity's star - you get it. It's just friggin' cool. When people walk past your computer, see your wallpaper, then see the Hollywood Rock of Fame from the picture - sitting on your desk - it all makes sense. People want their own. They'll grab your rock and compare it to the one in the picture. "Wow is that really it?!?!" And it is. It's the only collectible that is completely, 100% unique to each collector. Here's how it works.

For ten bucks, you select one of the celebrities from the HUUUUUGE list. I then go to the beach and select a rock. Beach rocks are just better to put on your desk - they don't look like trash. They're usually smooth and unique. I then drive to Hollywood, find your celebrity star (or hand print at Mann's Chineese Theater) and take a picture of your Hollywood Rock of Fame.

Your picture is of the highest quality. 2048 x 1536 at 300 dpi. To give you an idea, the 2 above pictures are 800 x 600 at 72 dpi. So the one you get is HUGE. If you'd like I'll send you a picture perfectly fitted to your desktop so it doesn't distort. Completely up to you. I will email your picture right away, package your rock with a signed certificate of authenticity and ship immediately. Free shipping in the US, overseas will have a slight charge.

Most people have the picture as their desktop, with the rock and certificate of authenticity nearby - but some have even printed and framed their picture and put the picture and the rock on a coffee table. It's a perfect conversation piece for sure. And for $10? Can't beat it. So take a look at the list of names, pick your favorite - and get your very own Hollywood Rock of Fame.

I can just FEEEEL the laughter on your end. Realize however, I do have a full-time job, and even a free-lance video editing job right now - oh and putting T2 together. It's not like I'm this hard-up for cash, I just actually, honest-to-goodness think it's cool as shit. It's the conversation piece of all conversation pieces. People see the rock on your desk, see the picture - hell if you live in IOWA, it's cool.

My last venture of course was the whole MiniCases.com thing...no wail - Best Online League was the last one - heh - the 2nd to last was the cases. MiniCases was actually too popular for its own good. There was zero money in them. The time it took to design the covers, print the covers, cut the covers, insert the covers - for every order was just stupid. I ended up making $3 an hour. With this - I figure I get about 10 orders, and I take a half day getting the pictures - shipping out the rocks. It's a good deal. For both parties really. $10 is incredibly cheap. In fact too cheap if I do say so myself - but let's see if it works first.

Oh, and check out the list of stars. Holy horseshit - there's like 2,000. And that's without the handprints at Mann's Chineese Theatre. Some of the no-names that have stars....whew. They gave 'em out like raffle tickets in the 50's boy.

Alright - now in legitimate news, I have a date for the LA Premiere. October 1st at 3rd Stage. It's a little 50 seat Theatre in Burbank where I've performed before with the Improviders. That night however it's just gonna be me doing both Trinitron shows back-to-back. $10 cover. I'll have the final details (like time etc.) as soon as they're confirmed, but if you're in the LA area - keep that Wednesday Night in mind. First day of October. How can it possibly be so close?

Damn, I'm just looking at my rock next to my Beatles Wallpaper you see above - it's almost impossible to describe how cool it is without having it. I believe this venture may be destined to fade away in yet another year - but you never know. One of these days the things I think are cool just may hit the rest of the world - right?
