Countdown Entry #17

10:11 AM, Saturday, November 6th, 1999:

Fellow Online LISTENERS! (Ahh, that does feel good...)

Starting on January 3rd, 2000 The Late Show will be back on the air 5 nights a week from 10 PM - 1 AM. What a WAY to kick off the millenium (I know it isn't REALLY the millenium yet...but don't all those zeros look NICE)

Changes? Yup. First of all, a co-host. After 4 years solo (though marty MOOSE sure did lots of cool stuff!), I'm happy to say that this guy will add a tremendous amount to the show, and give me the luxury to continue with the 4tvs.

Joe Jewitt is simply the quickest wit I've run into in my 4 1/2 years in radio. Always makes me laugh. Always sees things in a refreshing perspective, and ever since I've met him, I've wanted to do a show with him. His production skills are incredible, and I feel we will be kicking much ASSS come January.

Second change...The name. We still have no idea yet, but I think the days of "The Late Show" are officially coming to an end. Keeping the name hampers the show in two ways: If you liked it, you'll expect the same thing (just as the WTVN listeners did when they listened to CD101)...if you disliked it, you'll expect the same thing. My sole reason for wanting to keep the name was to sell all these god-damn CDs I have... Including the Listener Bits CD and Parody song CD I'd like to have out by December. We'll see what happens with those.

Last Change...the show! I'm already gearing up for the "song fight" we will both inevitably have with Andyman. He wants 2 songs per 15 minute segment, and Joe and I want 1. Tune in on the 3rd of January to see who wins. I barely see middle ground here. This show will have a talk base to it. There WILL be topics, there will be callers, there will be ONLINE interaction...but with a song every 5 minutes, you are now creating the mechanics of the OLD late Show on CD101. Which was song-bit-song-bit...that will not work with talk. Oh well, we will find a way.

You can still expect of course...TONS more parodies (they will be investing in background discs for me so I don't have to try and loop 2 chords for 5 hours to make a song) Also parodies of movies, TV shows, and the occasional Boyles from time to time.

So how does this further 4tvs? A question many of you asked when my first email came out. "Weren't you going to Vegas to push 4tvs, how the hell does this help?"

First, simple exposure. Plain and simple. A full-time On-Air position in this city rocks.

Second, when Joe does the shows the nights that I'm gigging, he can announce where I am on the air, as well as I will be promoting the show when I'm gigging. I'll be doing the parodies from the show and so on. It's a wonderful cross promotion, that in time will be extremely beneficial...

Here's the biggie: The million hits a month part. CD101.com is the biggest radio station web site in the country right now. It's getting INSANE hits all over the world. I still can't fathom how quickly the site hit 1,000,000 a month. Whereas most radio stations have little to offer, CD101.com really does a good job at bringing people back. Just as the show will have a link on their site, so will 4tvs.com...and thus an opportunity for my site to get pretty pounded. This really gets things rolling for 4tvs.com. It was something I simply could NOT turn down. And of course Vegas isn't OVER. If we do the show for 6 months and it BOMBS, and everyone wants to kill us, you move on! Simple as that. But I could never have gotten this kind of support in Vegas. I would have been BY MYSELF in a town I did not know. At a radio station that could care less what I did in Columbus. Let alone the internet support. It was the right decision. This is a big step in a huge picture, and it confirms my belief that CD101 is a very special place.

Did you hear the cleaning party we had 2 weeks ago at the station? Had a Sunday cleaning party, and EVERYONE came. EVERYONE. We all had pizza and subs, and cleaned up, and painted the Big Room, and laughed about unplugging shit on the air. It was awesome. It was soooo amazing. I'm sure you're all thinking "oooh...they made you clean on a SUNDAY" We were like little kids. It was fun. To see the owner of the station scrubbin' the floor next to the interns, and the GM sweeping the rug wearin' sweats...of course we could've paid some cleaning people to do it, but WOW. We had fun, we are a family. And a very loyal family as you can see. And what the GM and Andyman did for me this week was pretty amazing. This certainly is no WTVN. You never heard me singing about having sex with Darryl. Heh.

Speaking of which I called Corby last week. Heh heh... He was doing a topic on "world's worst bosses..."

Guess who I called in for....

Poor Darryl. "Hey, John. I used to work at a radio station and did this weekend show. It was great, lots of calls, lots of CDs and tapes sold...even got write ups in the paper...but my BOSS wouldn't listen to my show!" "This is Adam Kontras isn't it." It was very funny, he said: "Yeah, Darryl never paid attention to me either, but I was already in the afternoons, it must've sucked when you were trying to get some attention..." It was wild...my heart was all racing and I was all nervous. I NEVER get nervous...EVER. I get a rush, and feed off it, but waiting on the phone to slam Darryl AGAIN on WTVN got me nervous...it was cool as shit.

Anyway, I'm off to go figure out the rest of my year. Plans have definitely changed a bit. Oh, sidenote..I will not be playing the Gallery hop tonight. I know it's a beautiful day, but I can't do that again to CD101. I just can't. That would look way too selfish after all they've done.

Please respond with what you think! I'll be sure to write back immediately...

Your Late Show...well The Show Formerly known as The Late Show Host,

Adam
