Countdown Entry #18

7:24 PM, Monday, November 1st, 1999:

I haven't the slightest idea where to start. Uhm... Whew. So much has happened since I last wrote that I can now talk about...

First of all, my computer has been torn apart in every place imaginable and it hasn't gotten much better. I'm still trying to put together a video editing computer to make new sets now that ABOT has jumped ship. Well, now I'm just buying a new computer. Screw trying to upgrade, I've tried for 6 weeks nearly every night for hours trying to make this work. NOT HAPPENING. So... Got some stuff for sale! Heh heh... The 27 GIG hard drive I bought for $329.99 I'm willing to sell for $270 (NEVER BEEN FREAKIN' USED)... And the 128 MB of RAM I bought for $200 I'll sell for $150 (bought it 2 weeks ago) SIGH.... I'm off to buy a G4.

All of this for my emminent move to Las Vegas. But wait. I curve ball is thrown my way. The owner of CD101 steps into the picture and wants to talk to me. Not the PD, not the GM, the OWNER. I'm thinking..."come on..." They cannot offer me anything in Columbus that's gonna keep me here. I need to move where the ACTION is. So I humored him. It was the owner afterall. And a kick ass guy to say the least. He buys me a beer at Gibby's and we talk for nearly 90 minutes. The gist is that he doesn't want to lose a creative/talented person. Very nice of him, but wow...sorry. At some point I have to move on and pursue this. I can't believe I'm gonna be 25 next year. I was 19 when I started the Late Show and I need to pursue my music. We talk and talk and talk and nothing really sways me. UNTIL he mentions one word...one tiny little word: INTERNET. If you don't already know (how could you?) CD101 has a pretty kick ass website. Voted best in the country for a radio station and it gets 1 MILLION hits a month, all around the world. That's rather mind-boggling for a radio station.

To make a long (part of the) story short...5 years ago I would've HAD to get out of this city to get any sort of exposure. The net has changed all that. And with that many hits, CD101 is a great partner.

So how will all this help myself and 4tvs? That didn't come to light until last week when I was talking to the GM about all of this. We were basically throwing out ideas on how to keep me in Columbus and achieve the goals I'm trying to achieve. QUICK ASIDE: I cannot tell you how incredible this is. The family/community feel of CD101 is extraordinary. I couldn't even get Darryl to LISTEN to my show. And he was just the PD! ANYWAY....neither of us could think of anything. As the meeting was drawing to a close and I was getting mighty depressed I asked him one thing:

"Have you ever listened to Joe on the air?"
"Yeah, he's great..."
"What if we did a show together in the evenings..."
"Wow...I'd never thought of that...Jesus, that would work..."

And those 20 seconds basically rewrote my future. The Late Show with Joe & Adam. Fist let me say that Joe's talent and work ethic are quite extraordinary. In the 5 years that I've played around in the radio game, no one has impressed me more with their wit, and amazing production value. Not only would he enhance the Late Show, but his partnership will allow 4tvs to thrive. I can still do my gigs, while Joe runs the show - AND we can cross promote. He can say where I am, and I can talk about the show. 4TVS can be a vehicle for The Late Show, and vice-versa. It's a pretty exciting proposition. Besides the fact that The Late Show will be on the CD101 website along with a link to 4tvs.com. It's a partnership that I never dreamed of, but it's perfect. I stopped doing The Late Show in May because of 4tvs. I couldn't do it all. I felt I was doing "all I could"...now the flexibility is there, and Joe is just plain funny. It's the best of both worlds.

So when? How? WAIT a bit. Nothing is official. It would be completely irresponsible of me to throw times and dates at you. All I can say is that everyone involved is extremely positive, and after talking it over with Andyman and the GM, I think I'll know OFFICIALLY on Wednesday.

Of course now I have to reflect a bit. I was moving to Vegas to further 4tvs, have I hurt 4tvs by staying in radio? No. Let me put it this way...I would NOT have done the show by myself. You guys know me, I put freaking 5 hours of show prep into a 6 hour show. With Joe's help and creativity, and of course being able to still GIG - the cross promotion...AND THE NET!...I can't lose here. Everyone is helped. Everything is helped. You know? What a win-win situation. I see an upcoming year where things really start to take off. Man life is full of some crazy ass forks in the road. I'm not sure if an of you can FATHOM how ready I was to go to Vegas. I was THERE MAN. Packed, ready...Resume's going out THIS WEEK for a cheesy radio gig. Not anymore. Well...Wednesday I'll know for sure.

So now I live in limbo for 48 hours. I haven't slept since Friday. I'm very pumped.

Adam
