Hi folks...

First off, let me apologize for the unsolicited email. It's
something I would ordinarily never ever do. I'm little Miss Manners
as far as netiquette goes, but this is something where I feel I have
to break the bounds. If you're getting this email, it means you've
seen Adam Kontras perform, and liked him well enough to get onto his
email list. I'm flagrantly misusing the first email I got from him
to get your addresses, for which I hope you will forgive me. If you
don't particularly care what happens to one of the most talented
performers in existence, not to mention the awesome woman he's lucky
enough to have as a fiancee, then trash this email with my apologies,
feel free to flame me, whatever, it's deserved. If you do, please
keep reading.

You've probably been following with as much eager anticipation Adam's
emails from the trip out to LA as I have. The one he sent today just
broke my heart. I could rail on about the unfairness of the world,
bitterly curse the evil money-grabbing landlords who won't show an
ounce of mercy to a struggling artist, who, unlike most of the
struggling artists in LA, actually has talent, or I could do
something about it. And, well, I've always been more of a do-er than
a whiner.

So here's what I propose we do. If you've seen Adam live, you've
probably thrown some amount of money in the voluntary donation jar
just to say, "Hey, I really liked your show, man." Well, the jar's
not here right now, but Adam and Jess are more in need of money than
they've probably ever been before. By my count, this email is going
out to about 230 people, which is more people than I've ever sent out
a batch email to before in my life. When I first read the email Adam
sent out today, I thought to myself, "Man, I really want to help, but
I'm just one person who's none too wealthy myself, what can I do?" I
hope some of you did, too. Well, by myself, I can annoy 200 plus
people with unsolicited email, but maybe, just maybe, I can also
convince 200 plus people that, as fans of Adam's, we should put more
than just words of support behind him.

So I'm passing the virtual cookie jar, as it were, and pointing out
the fact that while any one of us may not be able to do much for Adam
and Jess, a whole 200 of us could have a major impact. Now, I don't
have their LA address yet, but I imagine he'll send it out soon to
the list at large, so here's what I recommend you do: Think back
really hard to the last time you saw Adam perform. Think about how
much he made you laugh, how much his talent amazed you. Think about
how much it'd be nice to see a hometown boy make it in the big city.
And think how much we could help, as a group of over 200, if each of
us were to send 10 or 20 bucks their way, more for those of us who
can afford it, less for those of us who can't. Even once they get
jobs, it'll be a while before they see a paycheck, and it's going to
be a long, hungry road for them if we don't help. If you believe in
what they're trying to do, then I urge you to put your money where
your mouth is. Throw them the kind of freewill donation you would at
one of Adam's shows. Call it an investment in the future, call it
helping a friend, call it whatever you want, but call it the right
thing to do for someone with a future as bright as theirs.

God, I feel like some kind of horrible cross between a telemarketer
and a Sally Struthers "Save the Children" commercial, but I hope you
understand and sympathize with what I'm trying to do. Let me
apologize again if I've annoyed the hell out of you with this email,
it was not my intent at all. If we shadows have offended... But
please, if you believe in Adam, then consider what I've said here,
and slap some spare cash his way when he sends out his address. It's
the least we can do for two of the awesomest people ever to leave
Columbus.
