When I told Talya I was gonna bring my Virtual Presence rig to our last trip to Disneyland she was a bit taken aback: "That's gonna be sooooooooo hard." because, Disney days are already hard. And I'm out of shape - and to add in that rig? One I wasn't even sure I could get in? Was a commitment. But I said what I always say: years from now I'm gonna really wish I had attempted it in VR180 once. And man, after finally finishing all 16 videos (yes 16 FUCKING VIDEOS) I can easily say not only am I glad I did it? I wish I had brought it the other times we went. It would've been great to collect more of these rides because they honestly feel so much like actually riding the rides I'm gobsmacked. If you're watching Rise of the Resistance in 8k60 (presently only works on DeoVR, but YouTube should pop-up the 8k version one of these days) it absolutely looks and feels like the ride. I'm stunned.

So I produced all of the rides individually and of course for The Journey, I have no choice but to break this up into 2 separate videos. 3 1/2 hours of footage cut down to 2 separate one-hour pieces. And yes, they're cut long. Like, at the beginning of the first one, I show the whole tram ride (only a couple minutes) because I want you to just lean-in to the whole slow process of taking in VR180 like this. The magic is when you're halfway through a ride and you honestly forget you're not there. That actually happened with ME and I was the guy editing it. LOL.

Alright, here's the first video and I'll throw in my thoughts on the rides...

So first, of course, Rise. The crazy thing is I got my wire stuck on the bar a couple times so when it jerks it actually jerks the camera but because of what's happening? It actually works. Like that lady screaming during the drop as the camera jerks? Awesome. And beyond that - that, fucking, stormtrooper shot I mean what the actual fuck. There's NO ONE ELSE IN THE SHOT. That is reel material right there. My 2026 reel is gonna be insane.

I knew Indiana Jones was gonna be tough, and it was - as was Big Thunder Mountain but at least you can SEE that one. Just too fast for a gimbal setup like mine and mannnnnn am I annoyed that the ride breakdown on Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway basically erased the 2 coolest rooms in the ride. UGH. Like - I almost want to buy a single ticket just to get that right, ya know? So annoyed.

What else... oh I'm stunned at how dark the projector in Soarin' is... Galaxy was great because Vienna wouldn't ride it but loved watching the VR version. Oh and the Swings ride looks incredible in VR180 and oh man, Little Mermaid feels EXACTLY like the ride. That's the cool thing with those types of rides, your view is already 180 since your in that shell and can't see behind you - so it's honestly just exactly like being there.

So yeah, great first part and believe it or not, the last ride of the day ended up being the best video of the bunch. Still cannot believe how well it all turned out.

Alright it's DIE-HARD NIGHT in the Kontras household! Yipee-Kiyay!
