- So I kind of
let the cat out of the bag in the last podcast that I
wasn't a big fan of the Faceless Lady VR180 series on
Meta TV. I say "let it out" because it feels worthless
to criticize something when I'm holding the exact same
equipment and can put my money where my mouth
is...
-
- ...of course that
requires substantial overhead to do correctly and I
really just want to make you all FEEL what
storytelling can be with this format. So I decided I'd
make you uncomfortable...
-
-
- Whew. Now, I
honestly am not the biggest fan of the POV gimmick
because it's so limiting, but there are situations
where it can work. I want to make a mockumentary
situation where people are literally annoyed that
you're there. Almost like you're a camera man that is
forced to cover something that no one is particularly
thrilled about. So they go in and out of looking or
talking to you. So you can lose yourself in some
scenes feeling like you're a fly on the wall and at
other times they get ANGRY that you're there. Say
you're following a guy into a dangerous nightclub and
they put the gun on BOTH of you... acknowledging
you're there, but it's not really about you. There's a
lot of ways to make this FEEL different than anything
you've ever experienced and if you watched this
entry's video in a headset, you get it. Talya actually
started crying at one point and had to look down and
away because she was so uncomfortable.
-
- Ya starting to
understand why I'm so FUCKING annoyed at only barely
being able to move the needle here? The stories you
could tell with this if you know what you're doing?
HOLY FUCK man. Like - it might actually be too
much. The opening part of this is only 90 seconds and
Talya wanted it to stop IMMEDIATELY. Like - I don't
think I can show this to my kids. The eye contact, the
seriousness of my voice? Guys... we can make
experiences that change the landscape of storytelling.
-
- So I'll throw this
out here and see what the reaction is... but a longer
short film is coming and it will feel unlike anything
anyone has experienced.
