- So I pretty much
say it all in the video, but I'll add a few
tidbits...
-
-
- This is such a
weird thing to document... you don't want to play your
hand, right? But I don't think anything here is
"lockable" to the public. So I really did show this to
like 10 people... and my takeaway was twofold: the
main dude took it off and said, IMMEDIATELY...
"HOW DO WE DO THIS.". Then
instantly went to Hef and said "Is Bally doing this?
Is any other team doing this? How do we do
this."
-
- So yeah, that
seems pretty positive, obviously. Hef then said that
he's trying to get his digital team to see it and
that's partly why he's showing all the teams: so they
ALSO talk to our digital team. In this world, anything
that helps both parties (broadcaster and team) has a
shared budget. So everyone REALLY wants to know
who else is IN. It's almost like trying to set-up two
people: you get both interested and then throw 'em in
a room together to figure it out. Of course if one
side isn't interested it stalls... if both sides are
interested - HURRAY! And the good news is? Every,
single, person, who sees this... is ready to move
forward. It's the craziest thing and I've been saying
it for months. So it really is just a matter of
time...
-
- ...but it's JUNE.
So I leave yet another meeting wondering how this
all comes together. The other takeaway was the people
in their digital team were QUITE INTERESTED in my
camera and my workflow for obvious reasons. They want
to do this, they can see that their bosses want to do
this and they want job security. Oh if it was only as
easy as buying the camera. As many have found out...
that ain't the case. Easily the least consumer
friendly video format to make look professional I've
ever run across. I was kind as I could be
and showed them the camera and how it worked, etc.
I know full well who is doing this type of work
successfully and it's a very, very short list. For at
least another 6 months? I'm well positioned. It will
get easier as this gets more mainstream.
-
- So next week is
the Bally Sales team (another angle to get digital
excited: they have access to the sponsors who will
ABSOLUTELY want this to happen) and the
LA Dodgers. Oh and a guy from The Tennis Channel
to boot. After that is Amazon Live Sports and the LA
Clippers. All thanks to Hef.
-
- I mean, holy hell.
I'm along for the ride, but I have to admit: for the
first time? I'm not enjoying the Journey. I'm done
with focusing on The Journey. I want the destination
this time. I've spent over a quarter century enjoying
journeys with VERY LITTLE destinations. I
need this to work. It seems like it is.
