What an absolutely epic little adventure this was...

Seems like a slightly more detailed voice-over is the entry here...

So for the 3rd Kontras Camping excursion we tried Lake Perris which is the city that didn't kill me when I jumped out of a plane. That's a plus.

Of course upon booking ya never expect triple digit temperatures in June. And hoo-boy, setting up was painful. So we went to Wendy's and made mad scientist drink concoctions. We walked around Walmart playing with fart guns. And then the sun finally dipped below a mountain, the temperature dropped, and we could take in the view... The way our car looked next to the tent honestly looked like a Toyota Rav 4 commercial.

Did the hotdogs, did the smores, in the tent we played 20 questions...

...but after a relatively sleepless night because of the heat and utter lack of blackout curtains... I was pretty certain, this would be a 1 night instead of 3 night trip.

And then, we went, to the lake...

Not many lakes you want to swim in... but this was quite clean, quite cool and somehow FILLED WITH GOLD? These little gold flecks from the gold mining days, which I later found out was pyrex, was absolutely fascinating to swim in. Everything just glittered. Besides that it felt very middle eastern to me and Talya, and checking the footage from Greece in '09 I see that, well, we're incorrect. Far more beautiful there, but the rocky desert landscape with water is quite striking and suddenly? We were extremely happy with our choice of camping spots...

So by noon it was back into town at Wendy's and then we figured we'd go to the movies! 3 hour Elvis epic? PERFECT. As was the movie pretty much. Laz Buhrman makes any subject colorful and watchable and, well, it's Elvis. Good match - even the kids liked it. Honestly can't wait to watch it again at home.

Picked up some stuff at Walmart and came home to the tent blown over because the camp site is literally a rock that bent all my stakes. A REMINDER TO FUTURE ADAM: YOU NEED TO BUY MORE STAKES BECAUSE THIS PLACE BENT ALL THE ORIGINAL ONES. Finally rigged something that made it work.

Had steak for the first time camping, and I'm-a-tell-u-what - that shit will happen again. Maybe it was the amount of work it took to make all that happen? But it was the best thing I'd ever tasted. Then of course - we had to hike. Can't camp without hiking.

It was most assuredly not very safe for the kids, but after a couple trips to Journey Mountain they were pretty adventurous. More than Talya on the 2nd hike.

And then Vienna saw a bug in the bathroom. Not just any bug, an actual fucking tarantula with video proof. Girl was terrorized and the next morning we had to assure Vienna the tarantula was a night thing...

Final day we did the lake with our new pop-up tent, went back into town to see Top Gun Maverick which was saved by an extremely fun third act. And did a final hikewith the kids and got REALLY high to gett a beautiful view that was topped only by opening the top of the tent as we slept under the stars... absolutely breathtaking...

As we packed up to go home, what started as a disaster turned into a very unique and one of our favorite camping trips that we'll always remember.

So yeah, not a whole lot more to add to that. Long video - but I can't imagine cutting anything out. I mean - these vacation videos are really for the 4 of us and, well, this is how we remembered it.

One of these days I might think of the other viewers again... ;-)
