9:10 AM, Wednesday, May 19th, 2021:

So my first gig after I passed my "Fully Vaccinated" mark on the 17th was, well, quite the test...

I mean, I've done gigs before during quarantine - but never inside for more than like 30 secodns. And of course, there's the smoke... I dealt with that once during 2020 and as I did here: I'd run in, set up the car, and run out. Nearly holding my breath the entire time. What you don't realize is that when you can SEE THE AIR? You're suddenly aware of the breaths you take. Like, do viruses spread EASIER when there's a fog machine? Do they get trapped in the fog and then you are basically LOOKING at the virus as you suck it in? If you can taste/smell the fog - does that mean you're breathing in a virus even if you're masked? It's pretty intense...

...but once fully vaccinated? It goes down a couple notches. Because I'm still masked, I'm still constantly moving and spending the majority of time outside AND I'm vaccinated.

But, yes, this is it: the last Quarantine Chronicle (unless I do something Friday... but we're having friends over to celebrate and that's a better entry to me). My kids will have spent 436 days in this holding pattern and obviously it's something we'll never forget. I just don't have it in me to wax poetic or write some big essay about what it means because, well, my kids still aren't vaccinated. What ends this Saturday is honestly? What most people have been doing this ENTIRE TIME. Eating outdoors, going to the beach, going swimming, wearing masks inside... with the one caveat: we will let our kids hang out unmasked with familes where the parents have been vaccinated. That alone is going to feel like Christmas morning to these kids. It's gonna be a nice, long summer of slowly reintroducing them to life again and I'm so excited I can barely sit still to hold a thought in my head...

What a quote, Shawshank. What quarantine chronicle.
