6:46 PM, Thursday, March 11th, 2021:

I don't really know how to feel years anymore. What does one year feel like? Sure, the smaller a percentage of your life a year is, the shorter it seems... but after a certain point? It's just like any measurement of anything: it just is.

So the fact that it was exactly a year ago, at this exact time, that the NBA announced it was stopping the season doesn't seem long or short... it just kind of "is". And it was at that momement I turned to Talya and said "The kids aren't going back to school tomorrow". It was a Wednesday, so it felt strange holding them out for two days, but by Monday morning it was state-wide. We made the right choice and the following day started what is now a full year in quarantine.

Now, since I've still had gigs, it breaks that up... for me. Even though I wear all my PPE, maintain distance and am never indoors it's a far cry from what Talya and the kids have done. If not for our Quaranteam, it would just be our house and their grandmother's house. That's it. And even with the Quaranteam that's just ONE other place. Three places in a year. Inside three places... in, a, year. Wow.

But you'd never know it if you hung out with them. They're used to it. They're sick of Zoom school and I'm pretty sure if they never have another Zoom meeting the rest of their life they'll be FINE with that (sorry kids, it's probably a forever thing), but they don't really feel like they're missing out much. Again, the Quaranteam has really saved us. We didn't see them from July to January and it was really hard for Cam and Vienna. They'll probably take a similar trip this summer, but hopefully with me and Talya getting our shots in May (hoping Biden's mandate holds), we're very close to some new experiences that will make THE MOST APPRECIATIVE KIDS ON THE PLANET very happy. Seriously, a patch of grass thrills them right now. It's gonna be a good summer.

Of course you wouldn't know it from the weather yesterday...

To them, this is snowing. Literal glee. They really need to play in actual snow this year. Either if we go back to Ohio or finding a place in the mountains here. Because that video is sad. It goes so quickly from hail to rain and they're still trying to believe. Ahh well. I swear they'll play in it for an hour and say "man, it's cold, I'm wet... can we go inside?". Bet.

Anyway, not much else to report - just felt the need to document the moment. That's kind of a thing I do.
