You can labor over shit like this... for days.

...and if The Journey has taught me anything? It's that you shouldn't labor over shit like this for days. You lose the spirit of the concept. Except here's the problem. That little opening? That's also the opening title for each Journey Volume. Every 10 years... until I die. So yeah, it was finished by the time I got up at 6:30am today and it's now, what 3:30? Which means I re-rendered and re-fucked with every frame for 9 hours. It's still not how I want it in my mind... but, it does feel like The Journey. That's the other thing...

...I can never go too professional for certain things. GolfKon videos? Sure - go all out. If I had the time and money for "Drinks and Minigolf"? Oh yeah, you want that as professional as humanly possible. But Journey stuff? Whew. I've found that the magic of The Journey is it feels workman-like. You add too much pizazz and it feels like you're somehow selling out.

Now, annoyingly, I didn't get that footage when we went there a couple weeks ago or even when we went there last week because there's some things you can't do when making sure your kids aren't falling to their death on a mountain: concentrate on "the shot". So I took a separate trip and although I have a capable drone, it had been so long since I fired it up I was worried I'd be in firmware hell trying to make it work so Jesse lent me his. Trusty Mavic-Air which certainly did the trick however I didn't take off the collision detection and fighting THAT craziness to get my shot was near impossible. So I didn't get exactly what I wanted... but I also didn't crash his drone so that's awesome.

I'm also trying to make an SD piece of footage merge with 4K footage and even worse? I don't have the original footage from the bit. Oh what a fucking annoyance that is. So I'm stuck with the edited shot - words on-screen and all. Blah blah blah, it works. I'm relatively happy although man the angles I had before were SO BADASS - I just couldn't bring it home without going back to the mountain with a sturdier drone. Mavic Air is awesome, but it gets abused by the wind more than my phantom did.

But we're talking about 10 seconds. LOL. Even if it's the beginning 10 seconds of the rest of my life in the end it's just 10 seconds.

So we move on... one-year anniversary on Thursday. Fucking hell.
