- I mean, I'd
hate me at this point. How many entries of how lucky
I am or how good things are can you read? Why
would anyone sit online and DOCUMENT how awesome shit
is for YEARS...
-
- ...to answer that
you'd have to understand how this
"Journey" started. How badly I wanted to
stop. And how badly I believed it would get better if
I just kept going. So of course I'm not quitting
now because the tables turned. I will however admit
I'm part-reader here too and even I roll my eyes
sometimes. Oh well, roll away...
-
- So the Delorean
gigs have clearly lessened. The goodness did bleed
into 2016, but as we're nearing the end of the second
half of this year it's drying up. The fact that this
is October is hilarious to me. Last year was so fucked
I couldn't breathe in October. This year I'll barely
get past my OCTOBER TOTAL in the entirety of
2016. Granted, that's still more than anyone
I know, but I need to upgrade the business model
and believe it or not? I finally jumped into the
virtual reality world purchasing an HTC Vive this
weekend and my rig to run it all shows up on, ready
for this? October 21st. Ha. The future arrives a year
late. I will finally be making the flight
simulator that was talked about in the article from
last year. Just needed technology to catch-up! It did.
Back to the story at hand...
-
- ...so yes since
the Delorean gigs are still on-going my only real
stress is GETTING there. That's what people don't
realize - that's the part that is so stressful.
Thousands of dollars are on the line if
ANYTHING goes wrong. You can only leave so
early... sometimes you just have to roll the dice and
hope it all works out. One of these days I will
indeed lose a bunch of money on a gig because of car
issues. Incredibly? It hasn't happened yet. Amazing to
me. However, this was as close a call as it's ever
been...
-
- Driving 140 miles
roundtrip to a homecoming dance. Going around a curve
on an interchange I skid out. I regain control,
all is cool... and go the remaining 45 miles of the
trip. I stop and get gas and I make it to
the gig, all set-up and start firing up the iPad for
the Buckeye game... when I notice the tire is
FLAT. Then, as you'll see from the video - it's not
just flat: the tread was RIPPED OUT. Yup, that
turn on the interchange blew out my tire... yet
somehow I maintained enough air pressure to get
to the gig. Had I gone flat a MILE before
I did? I would've lost $1000. There's no room for
a spare in the time machine and there's no way
I could've gotten a tow to the gig in time to
make the money. So, in fact, this was
THE greatest way I could've possibly had a flat.
Because now I get a nice comfortable ride home
and the time I sit waiting for the tow truck is
billable time because it's a three hour
event.
-
- That's some lucky
shit right there. Then we have the event: no one could
give two shits about the car because they had carnival
rides on the school grounds. Huh? I believe the
entire night with close to 1000 kids, only 3 or 4 took
a picture of my car. ONE asked to sit in it... and it
remained basically dark the entire time. So, no wear
and tear... Giddy-Up. How is this a job again? OH
AND THE BUCKEYES...
-
- To top it off
I get to watch the Buckeyes in HD on my iPad
on the back of the Time Machine
WIN THE FREAKING GAME in overtime.
So badass. What an incredible game. Jesus that was
close. This team scares me. So young... but are they
still young after games like that? Wow.
-
- So yeah, then the
tow truck showed up at the end of the gig and
I had someone to talk to for the hour and 20
minute ride home. Good shit, right? Shit I have six
100 mile tows per year... I may just set a few up
because that was FAR less stressful than driving
to the gigs... and if it actually SAVES me time
and money? Done.
-
- Anyway, video of
the adventure...
-
-
- Now back to
researching this whole VR thing. I have a feeling
this is gonna own me for the foreseeable
future.
