11:38 AM, Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014:

I shouldn't be writing this as utterly annoyed as I am, but the truth is this video was completed yesterday in record time and I have no idea when it will successfully be uploaded. It uploaded for 14 hours, got to 100%, and then said "The video has failed to process." - with a link to supported file types, but of course it's a supported file-type as it's the same file type I've used for 100s of videos and years of uploads. So I re-upload the entire file again and hope this time it works. Now I'm going to play make-believe like you watched that because at some point you will and even I am going to sit, watch the entire thing again, and remember how freaking happy I was when I finished editing it last night.

I adore this show. In fact, I adore this episode more than anything on the planet right now because it's proving to me (the biggest critic) that it can work with every personality type. Eventually, I will have a guest that is political or a sports figure where comedy can't be the forefront. It has to still work. Joel is a great insight into a comedic energy that, like all of his brothers, isn't in your face. It's a subtle, standing behind you type of jab that honestly doesn't always come up in a normal interview setting. Here? Tons of them. His line at the 9th hole about men not in hats playing real golf is so, so, so, funny. It's quintessential Murray. And did any of you notice that? The resemblance in cadence with his brothers? No other way to describe it other than "Murray". From what I've read, they all have that same subtle wit that again, in the right setting? Is pee-your-pants funny, but it's indeed a slow-burn. The Hole 9 jab is 10x funnier if you watched the entire game, because you have to key into his rhythm... and then BOOM. He hits you over the head with brilliance.

This was also the moment where I really, really felt like "holy shit, what is this man doing in my backyard." His background as a golfer, the fact that he's Freddy Freaking Rumsen on one of my all-time favorite shows... there were times I stepped back and watched him thinking "woah. this is really happening." I really do have something that attracts well-known people who have no business being in the valley in my backyard, yet are finding a way to get there. Just, whew.

Now the actual episode... how insane is that Johnny Cash story? I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. What a wonderful thing to share. I adore moments like that. When else is that going to come up in interviews that he does? So glad he got to share it, people are going to LOVE it and I'm THRILLED to have given him the opportunity simply because we spent enough time to GET to it. Ya know? Things like that have to happen organically to even have your memory jogged. So cool.

Also, technically speaking, Joel sat on his recording device for his mic in the car and I believe it knocked the connection out - thus I had to use MY mic to capture HIS audio and it was a bitch to make it even work. Also a full charge on my GoPro battery only lasted 25 minutes?!?! Thus, the button where you see me changing to a 2-shot. So I think I'm going to take the time to completely wire the Delorean for power and mic it separately so it's basically a mobile studio and this shit never happens again. This of course is where an actual budget comes in. Better cameras, better equipment and more help. It's great I can pull it off now, but there could be a noticeable bump in production value with very little investment.

Final thoughts on the episode:

- I love that I was able to show that a real golfer can do really well on that course. That lends a ton of credibility to it for future guests.

-So you know? I have never eagled 7 in 2 years worth of tournaments. That's how ridiculous it is that I have done it 4 times in a row.

-The kid answers "It's a 2002." LMAO.

-FINALLY A HAT WITH A STORY! I mean, Gedde had one since he traveled with it, but THIS was what I envisioned when I thought of the concept. Having a picture of the guest wearing the hat either in a show/movie or at some huge event - and then wearing it on the show. Joel wearing that hat at the Irish Open and then wear at on Hats & Minigolf is perfect. Yay.

So I am elated. Looks like I'm also sneaking in a Halloween episode this week with Dean Haglund from X-files which will certainly test the format as he's not a comedic actor whatsoever. Looking forward to it...

...but moreso looking forward to hearing Joel's reaction to the piece and seeing where that takes us. Would love to get every single one of the brothers on the course so they can have their own plaque and compete with each other.

:-)
