Weird New York
video and bizarre original composition thanks to
Garage Band. Gotta love the 21st Century.
Good times. And
one of the last times travelling will be this easy.
It's easy to travel with a kid when it's inside
you. You eat, the kid eats. Seriously after seeing
that ultrasound? There is no longer a fetus in her, it
looks like a little baby and my brain just kind of
accepts that. We're travelling with Talya's mom and it
feels like there's 4... and the baby is just really
agreeable. Ha. I imagine in the future showing the kid
pictures/videos and saying "You were there, you were
just really tiny." :-)
That's kinda why
I'm growing the beard. I remember pictures of my
dad around the time that I was born and he had a
beard. I tend to go with the flow and it just feels
right while Talya's pregnant to be "dad". I'll soon be
me again, but it's comforting to me to look in the
mirror and see my father. Talya likes it too, but I
just think she loves me no matter what. Heh. I mean,
I really do kinda look like a homeless person.
And everyone's reaction in Columbus will be funny. It
will make my father laugh and my mother cry.
These pictures look
like the 70s to me and not just because of Hipstamatic
and Instagram apps. I will change of course, it's
absolutely my intention to grow this beard, looks as
disheveled as humanly possible and then do a split
screen video with myself clean shaven after working
out for a couple of months. Basically because everyone
thinks it's never gonna happen. But for now,
I love the comfort of looking like a "Dad". And I
will enjoy surprising my family on Friday. Oh yeah,
Mr. Storyteller - we're travelling all over: NY
to DC to Columbus.
Jesus,
I usually build up trips for several entries but
obviously other things have been on my mind. We made
these plans before we knew Talya was pregnant and
likely wouldn't have made them had we known. She is
still battling heavy, heavy nausea and has spent the
last 2 months in bed. Any movement and she gets sick.
Suuuuuuuucks. So hey! Let's go to New York! And
walk EVERYWHERE. Ha. She's been a good sport but it's
kind of an hourly thing. One hour can be a "lay in the
fetal position because I feel so hungover" hour and
then she's fine for a bit. Thankfully I could care
less about site-seeing in general, I just like
being in the city. Did see the 9/11
Memorial...
The holes are very
moving. It's a nice tribute and very simple. It's
remarkable the amount of space they take up as they're
basically the footprints of the old towers. The nicest
part however, is what's being built around the
memorial. A sense of "FINALLY" as you see it come
together. I never understood why it took so long. I
remember going to Ground Zero in '05 and '07 and
literally nothing was done. I know there's a
lot of bureocracy to get through, but 6 years later?
It never sat well with me. Everyone wants to move on
and when you go there now, even though it will be
years until it's all done, it feels healing. We're
moving forward...
This tree is
called "The Survivor Tree" which was in the original
Twin Towers Plaza. It was just a stump, it was moved
around, but it somehow survived. It's now showcased at
the memorial and it's just beautiful. Freedom Tower is
coming along nicely as well. Progress feels great
after so many years of an empty hole. Ugh.
That's Fall 2005.
Just one massive empty space. Crazy. Click that
panorama, it's like 3 times bigger if ya wanna scroll
it. Anyway, the rest of the time when Talya was
feeling up for it, we just walked and got food and
drank coffee. :-)
This is barely
posed. They really are quite goofy together. :) Love
'em both a bunch. Oooh! And we ran into the Greek
Independence Parade! I'M GREEK! I have a BEARD.
Take a picture...
Hahahaha.
I look like a Greek Fisherman. Funny. Yet, why am
I wasting space on my ugly mug?
That's better, a
Talya laugh. :-) Even with her Michael Jackson glasses
she's gorgeous. HAHAHAHA. She wears them well though.
Oh and we went to Strawberry Fields of
course...
Lovely. Oh and
they changed all the benches in the section of Central
Park my infamous bench was at... but that sounds about
right. Life has most certainly moved on. My focus is
very clear...
...and much of
that clarity came from my visit with Tammy
& Steve yesterday which will clearly get it's
own entry. Some good stuff. It's funy, the biggest
mission in NYC wasn't the 9/11 memorial or even
meeting with Tammy & Steve at MSNBC... it was
finding a place to see the Mad Men premiere. HA. And
amazingly after we had given up, we walked past a
random bar that was showing the entire 2 hour
premiere! SCORE:
So funny. Only in
New York and LA would they ever play a dialogue-driven
drama for two hours on every TV. Several people came
in kind of annoyed, but thankfully they kept it on and
we didn't fall behind. Very good show, hardly anything
I didn't like - looking forward to a very
different season. This ain't 1960 anymore. It's also
barely still "Linsanity" if anyone was
wondering...
But it's hangin'
on by a thread. 3 asian dudes ran in, took this
picture and then left. Made me laugh. What a funny
phenomenon. He's a legitimately good player though.
He'll be around... just not certain he'll stay with
New York...
...and we are
leaving NY as well. DC awaits. Tammy & Steve entry
tomorrow.
