As my CDs have
long been ripped and all of my DVDs are now on
mirrored hard-drives accessed through a media
center... this really is it. All my original videos
get triple archived on harddrives and never see
physical media leaving blu-ray that will more than
likely be the last format I will ever release
something on. Will there be a physical format past
blu-ray? Prooooooooooooobably not. Oh they'll up
resolutions and make you buy new tvs for a different
and better 3D... but I can see no reason
for physical formats past blu-ray. I'm even looking
into how to get "The Journey From 1 to 1000" on
iTunes and netflix as it's just where we're headed.
Netflix is IN new TVs. You hit a button and
watch the movie instantly. It's a
no-brainer...
...but one last
time, I get to go through the fun "arts and
crafts" of making a physical product look as
professional as possible. I'm doing it, not for
selling, but to give away to networks, film festivals,
etc. I'm hoping some friends can donate to the cause
to help cover how expensive blu-rays are to produce,
but unlike past things I've produced - the goal isn't
making money... it's getting the best possible
representation of the product in the hands of the
people that can take it to the next level. I think
I succeeded as my cousin Jimmy said on the phone
today: "It looks exactly like a blu-ray you'd
buy at Best Buy. Zero difference." He's a super
movie-buff-blu-ray geek like me, so if he thinks that?
Mission accomplished. And, having it in my collection?
It's just kind of a geek-boner. :-)
I know it's
the same soundtrack from the premiere video... but it
works. Like I haven't been workin' like crazy on all
this lately. Oh, here's the cover...
I had to make it a
combo Blu-Ray/DVD because I can't run the risk of
someone not having a blu-ray player (however
rare that would be at a television network or studio)
and then never watching it. Making two packages is
stressful 'cause you don't know what to send or what
to have on-hand, so I bought dual-case blu-rays and
just included both. It really makes the person holding
the package feel they have something substantial. It
is a bit more time consuming, and obviously more
expensive - but as I said, I'm hoping some
friends and family will donate to the cause so I can
continue to get these to the right people. If you'd
like a copy, drop me an email.
So now all eyes
point to next Wednesday, July 20th - the lunch meeting
with HBO. There will be no fireworks at this meeting,
it's more of a "get to know you" deal, and handing
over the above product. Yes, I basically did all
of this simply for the impression it will make when it
hits her hand. I've always believed if you concentrate
on the details, the big picture comes
together.
