Yeah, there's no
way I was leaving this at one entry. Watching the
other side react has been so disheartening and sad, I
couldn't let this be. One person in particular who
I was pretty close with in grade school... just
wow. His reaction to Sunday night's news:
"Let's be
clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An
AMERICAN SOLDIER, who Obama just a few weeks ago
was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama
just happened to be the one in office when our
soldiers finally found UBL and took him out. This
is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN
victory!!"
Disrespectful to
say the least. Hardly worth responding to. In the same
thread he said:
"Obama
didn't do shit. An American soldier did...something
Obama never would have had the balls to do. So much
for his fake ass Peace Prize."
This is kinda when
it feels like playing chess with a dog. He just made
two conflicting points in the same comment. He went on
to say that Osama was killed the week before and he
waited too long to get the DNA results. Clearly
wrong, clearly did zero research and clearly just
wanted to shit on Obama no matter what. For people
like this? Obama could find capture and kill Osama Bin
Laden and they'd still have an issue with him.
<----LMAO. Blah, blah, blah - listen, I love a
good debate, but it does require intellectual
curiosity and some understanding of when to say
when.It reminded me of when Bush was president
and I called my father to say what an incredible job
he did.
What, what,
WHAT?
Yes. This
happened. It was his speech to congress after 9/11.
After all the jokes at his fumbling of words, at how
"Stupid" he was - he gave that speech and
NAILED it. He nailed every moment and I was
100% behind him. Why wouldn't I be? I'm
impartial. I wanted him to succeed because
I wanted US to succeed. I don't play
politics. I never did. I could give two
shits about domestic agendas or who is getting this or
what I'm not getting... it absolutely doesn't affect
me. People getting angry about others on welfare? Huh?
Taxes annoy you that much? <shrugs> I think
taxes are CHEAP. For getting to live in this country,
are you kidding? Have you BEEN to other countries? Oh,
wait... most who bitch about them HAVEN'T been.
If I mention
that clearly you don't lower the taxes and then start
two wars - it's not because I'm a democrat or a
republican - it's because I'm not a moron. I have
absolutely no bias one way or the other. I have no
religious affiliation, conversely I could give
two shits if you do. I don't care if it says "In
God We Trust" on my money even if I don't
believe in the God that person who wrote that did.
Really. You have that much time on your hands, really?
Does the money buy you food? If it did, it could say
"In Seals we Rape" and I would hand it over and
get some food. What the fuck do you care where the
word "GOD" is? I never thought it was a
violation of my rights to say the pledge of allegiance
or when all those catholic kids prayed next to me
every morning. Never thought poorly of people on
welfare, I felt grateful I wasn't on it.
Never worried about people "screwing the system"
'cause that kind of thinking stresses you out. I
never, ever, ever long for what anyone else has...
EVER. I like me, I like my life and if
something comes along that I don't like?
I change it. Maybe it's because I'm blessed with
the ability to make a million dollars if I wanted
to but honestly understand that I'd rather spend more
time with my loved ones. What I'm saying is, and this
even holds true with Obama, what I say never
comes from a bias to influence one side or the other.
It all comes from a historical perspective and simply
comparing the present with the past. That and pointing
out things that have zero debate. Kinda like this
point:
Ya know why it was
the right move to go after Bin Laden and Al Qaeda
instead of Saddam Hussein? Play the video of the
crowds celebrating when we got Hussein...
...oh WAIT. There
weren't ANY. No one gave a fuck. You can debate ad
nauseum if it was classy or disrespectful to cheer at
the news of Bin Laden being dead but you're missing
the bigger point: clearly as a collective whole? Our
country felt some relief. We felt (for some
CRAAAAAAAAAAAZY reason) that Al Qaeda and Bin
Laden attacked us on 9/11 and it took 10 years to get
him. You don't need a pundit to tell you this, you
don't need talking points. You don't need to guess why
no one was overjoyed when Saddam was captured and then
hung... it's 'cause he didn't attack us. He had
nothing to do with 9/11, and therefore we felt no
personal issue with him. So NOW does any "Republican"
reading this understand why it was kinda ludicrous for
Bush to announce 6 months after 9/11 that Bin Laden
didn't matter? Or for Bush to shut down the
CIA unit looking for him in 2004? Pretty easy to
do some research and see the Bush's ties to the Bin
Laden family - but even ignoring that? Obviously the
priority was this bigger scale of war. And if we got
Bin Laden guess what would've been harder to do? Go
into Iraq. I don't know how any rational person can
deny that the attacks on 9/11 were used to write a
blank check for war that had NOTHING to do with
keeping us safe from another attack. As the Obama
administration just proved, Intelligence and Special
Ops is the course of action to keep us safe. The
information we got from the raid alone literally
decapitates anything that was in the
works.
That's why I have
calledd bush a War MONGER. LOOKING for reasons to
go to war. It's not because I'm a pussy,
bleeding-heart liberal. Look up the definition of
liberal. It much describes sending hundreds of
thousands of kids to die in a foreign land for
ZERO REASON, rather than using intelligence and
special ops forces. The latter course of action would
be... CONSERVATIVE. Bush's liberal war and liberal
financial policies brought us to our knees. And again,
I'm just not certain how that can be argued. The most
liberal thing Obama has done economically in office?
Extending the Bush tax cuts. Think about it. As a
government, you give away MORE money when you're
DEEPER in debt? Doesn't sound very CONSERVATIVE. Now,
anyone paying attention knows he did that to negotiate
a slew of other deals late last year that would never
have passed otherwise (Repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell
among them), but if you have any sense of history
whatsoever - there is nothing liberal about
this administration. If/when Obamacare goes into
action 3 years from now - you may see what could
universally be considered a "liberal" agenda go into
action. But even then, sorry guys... it was the 1994
Republican COUNTER to Clinton's Health Care plan.
<throws hands up> If you think Obama is a crazy
liberal, you simply aren't paying
attention.
And if you have
any other feeling but pride this week for Obama
keeping his word and focusing on those that attacked
us? Check yourself for a moment. You think I wouldn't
have been happy if we had gone after Bin Laden in Tora
Bora and not let him go in December 2001? Of course
I would've. Why on earth would I not want
justice to be brought to the people that hurt our
nation? Do you really think the reason I have an
issue with Bush is because of his politics? Like I'm
somehow just a Democrat that wants to "win" so
I have to bash Bush? No, I believe he hurt
the bravest among us: our soldiers. I believe
that at best he was incompetent with how he used the
troops in regards to Iraq and at worst duplicitous in
creating an atmosphere of never-ending global war that
had fuck-all to do with fighting terrorism and
everything to do with the military industrial complex
that Eisenhower so eerily warned of in his last speech
as president. This is not political, this is not about
something as trivial as tax money, it is actually
about the fabric of our country and what every single
one of us believes in if we're honest with ourselves.
Life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness.
And listen, if you
don't care to know the history of this country -
that's absolutely your right. I have never had one
unkind word to say about a great deal of my friends
who say: "Honestly I don't care,
I voted for him because he sounded nice." That
doesn't bother me at all. You live in a fantastic
country that allows you to do that. My only issue is
when you jump into the debate with nothing but a
pocketful of bias and zero research or knowledge of
history. Then, we have a problem.
Annnnnnnnd
finally. About the die-hards trying desperately to tie
this into waterboarding. <shakes head>. First,
it's not like they have post-it notes with clues on it
and the blue ones came from torture. (sigh)
Information has been gathered since the Clinton
administration on this man and it all helps somehow.
From what I gather, no, this did not come
directly from waterboarding but the reason that type
of torture is worthless is because the
interrogators have said it is. They just have.
All ethics aside (and LAWS) the person you're
torturing will say whatever he can to make you stop
torturing him. Intellegent interrogation is far more
effective. We're better and smarter than that. And
even if you could somehow tie any piece of information
that got Bin Laden to waterboarding it still doesn't
fucking matter. How 'bout this for a
similie:
A woman gets
punched every time her man wants dinner and she makes
it. She eventually leaves the man and makes dinner for
her NEW man without being punched in the face.
Does man #1 have a case that it was his beating that
made it possible? Making that connection is about the
stretch you would have to make for saying
waterboarding lead to Obama getting Osama. Either way?
It doesn't fucking matter. We're better than that.
Much better than that. Oh and on that note? Hell yes
I want to see the pictures of Bin Laden shot in
the head. I was incredibly disappointed when he
made that decision...
...but guess who
gets the right to not be questioned on this decision?
Exactly. And seriously, "Deathers", the man is dead.
It's not like he's returning his family's phone calls,
ya know? Al Qaeda and his family confirmed it. To
believe this is a conspiracy would mean that the US
and AL Qaeda colluded, hell and Pakistan to boot...
for what reason? If you think Bin Laden is still alive
- you honestly have too much time on your hands.
You're reading some really, really, really stupid
sites. You're smarter than that. I mean, you've read
this, right?
;-)
Adam
PS - Call me lazy
(and this year I certainly have been) but this is
exactly why I marched against the war in Iraq and I've
never been more proud of my country, my president or
my own personal actions just 2 1/2 years into that
war. I was right, I have been proved right, and
there is no doubt. This is why we walked.
